   The Bread-Winner is a one-act comedy play written by British author W. Somerset Maugham,  at the age of fifty-six, in 1930, centering on a middle-aged stockbroker's rebellion against his conventional family life amid the economic fallout of the 1929 stock market crash. The work premiered at London's Vaudeville Theatre on 30 September 1930 before transferring to Broadway's Booth Theatre on September 22, 1931, where it ran for 55 performances until November 7.
