Some scenes from The Education of Elizabeth written by the British playwright Roy Horniman ( 1868 – 1930), and produced at the Apollo Theatre (Shaftesbury Avenue), London, in 1907.

1- The luncheon given by the aristocratic Harry Fairfax (Mr. Marsh Allen) to Elizabeth Banks (Miss Miriam Clements) and her friends (who are all appearing in the chorus of a musical comedy), on the day when Harry asks Miss Banks to go abroad to be educated before returning to marry him. (Miss Lettice Fairfax, Mr. Lawrence Grossmith, Mr. H. V. Esmond, Miss Miriam Clements, Mr. H.V. Surrey, Mr. H. Marsh Allen, Miss Florence Lloyd.
2- Elizabeth and Harry, their troubles now behind them, just arriving at a happy understanding in the fourth act, as they discover they are still lovers, in spite of the change in Elizabeth.
3- Elizabeth having greedily devoured school knowledge for two years, has returned to England so prim and demure a student that her old chorus-girl friend, Blanch Macyntyre (Miss Florence Lloyd) is offended at the teetotal, non-smoking, Chopin-playing superiority of her ways, and is seen accusing her of "giving herself airs," as she says, "You were a show-girl, and so was I!"
4- Lucy Middleton (Miss Maude Millet) condoling with her brother, Harry Fairfax, on the fact that Elizabeth's education has been so great a success that the old bohemian charm has been schooled completely away from her, and with it her charm for Harry.
5- The door being suddenly opened by Mrs. Hankey, the landlady (Miss Alice Beet), who was eavesdropping outside, falls into the room. Mrs. Hankey is on a visit to the educated Elizabeth, who has run away to leave her lover, Harry, free, and who is now in poverty.
