A scene from The Cenci (adaptation of Percy Byssh Shelley’s drama, displaying a great deal of violence and gore) written by the French dramatist Antonin Artaud (1896 - 1948) and staged his own play in 1935. Artaud played the lead role of Count Cenci, a nobleman in the sixteenth century. After seventeen performances, the production was closed and considered a failure.
