Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream by Max Reinhardt in 1938

Some scenes from A Midsummer Night's Dream written by the English playwright William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616) and produced under the direction of Max Reinhardt (Austrian theatre director, 1873 - 1943) in 1938

Reinhardt had long been obsessed by A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He directed more than thirty productions of the play from 1905 until 1939, including the 1935 film version, which is supposed to be the culmination of Reinhardt´s productions of this play.

Reinhardt enjoyed pushing the envelope on conventional theatre, by adding as many people as he can etc. The following picture is an example of his love for huge spectacle.
