O'Neill's "Where the Cross Is Made" explores the distinction between reality and fantasy through the character of Captain Bartlett, whose obsession with finding a lost treasure leads him to confuse his delusions with reality. This theme is highlighted by the family's struggle to bring him back to sanity, demonstrating the destructive power of fantasy when it overrides one's perception of reality.
