The Silver Box written by John Galsworthy and produced at the Empire Theatre, New York, in 1907

A scene from The Silver Box (a three-act comedy) written by the British playwright John Galsworthy (1867 - 1933) and produced by Charles Frohman (1856 - 1915) at the Empire Theatre, New York City, with the scenic design by Frank Platzer, having run for only 20 performances from March 18, 1907 to April 1907, featuring Bruce McRae as Jones and Ethel Barrymore as Mrs. Jones. Critics praised Ethel Barrymore's performance, but audiences preferred to see her in more glamorous part.

In the play, the disappearance of a cigarette box (the silver box) leads to a comparison of the behaviour of the son of a prosperous politician, with that of an unemployed man, and the exposure of attitudes of different social classes.

The Silver Box written by John Galsworthy in 1906 was first performed on September 25, 1906, at the Royal Court Theatre in London. It attracted much attention and was later published in 1906 as part of a collection titled Plays in Three Series: First Series.
