Act III

    

   In 1907, Andreev offered A. S. Serafimovich to work together on a play about students. However, this cooperation did not take place. Andreyev was very interested in the theme of his student life, in which he personally experienced, and the play "Days of Our Lives" reflected memories of his own student time spent at Moscow University in the 1890s. A. Kaufman, who knew Andreev well in his early youth, testified, according to his relative S.D. Panova: "When Andreev was at the university in his last year, his mother, who moved from Oryol to Moscow and needed money, rented a room to an elderly woman who had a daughter who was from the institute. Andreyev met a girl who inspired him with sympathy and, to his horror, learned that the resident traded in her daughter as a profitable item. The girl was soon expelled from the institute, which finally untied her mother's hands, and she irrevocably pushed her daughter onto a slippery slope. One day, Andreev was invited to visit a tenant in a room where there were several people, including an officer. Outraged by what he had to observe, Andreev entered into an argument with the girl's mother, which ended in a fight: Leonid Nikolayevich began to kick his mother out of the apartment, an officer stood up for her, hit Andreev on the head with a saber, but did not wound him. This collision served as material for the creation of the images of the play - Ol-Ol, her mother, Evdokia Antonovna, officer von Ranken.

   The premiere of "Days of Our Lives" took place on September 11, 1909 at the Korsh Theater. The role of Evdokia Antonovna was played by the excellent actress M.M. Blumenthal-Tamarina. The play was shown at the New Drama Theater in St. Petersburg on November 6, 1908.

   Many reviewers wrote about the "cheerfulness" and "vitality" of the play. Andreev was called a talented genre painter. "Days of Our Lives" turned out to be Andreev's most popular play, which had a fairly long stage history.
