Twelfth Night written by William Shakespeare and originally produced, under the direction of Harley Granville Barker, at the Savoy Theatre, London, in 1912 to 1913

   Scenes from Twelfth Night written by the English playwright William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616) and originally produced, under the direction of Harley Granville Barker (English actor and director, 1877 - 1946), at the Savoy Theatre, London, from 15th November 1912 to 15th March 1913.

   Granville-Barker's directing career boomed with three famous productions of Shakespeare  The Winter's Tale and Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Savoy Theatre. He removed all classic scenery and replaced it with symbolic one.

    a- Antonio interrupts the duel which is being cautiously fought by the girl-boy Viola (Miss Lillah McCarthy) and the effiminate Sir Andrew Aguecheek (Mr. Leon Quartermaine),  with Sir Toby watching.

    b- Viola lays siege to the heart of Olivia on behalf of her master Orsino (Miss Lillah McCarthy and Miss Evelyn Millard).

    c- Viola and her master, Orsino (Miss Lillah McCarthy and Mr. Arthur Wontner).

    d- The steward, Malvolio, interrupts the midnight roisterers.  Sir Toby : "Dost thou think, because thou art virtuous, there shall be no more cakes and ale?"

   a- Mr. Henry Ainley as Malvolio. : Before the Yellow-Stockinged cross-gartered period.

   c- Miss Lillah McCarthy as Viola.  :  The Count Orsino's ambassador of love to Olivia.
