A scene from Arms And The Man (romantic comedy in three acts), written the Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950), and perfomed at the Avenue Theatre, London, on 21st April 1894, starring Harley Granville Barker (Actor, playwright and producer, 1877 - 1946) and Auriol Lee (1880-1941).
Arms and the Man is a comedy by Bernard Shaw. Its title comes from the opening words of Virgil's Aeneid, Arma virumque cano (Of arms and the man I sing).
The play was published in 1898 as part of Shaw's Plays Pleasant volume, which also included Candida, You Never Can Tell, and The Man of Destiny. Arms and the Man was one of Shaw's first commercial successes. He humorously exposes the futility of war and the hypocrisies of human nature.
