A scene from Hamlet written by the English playwright William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616) and produced at Stratford-upon-Avon?, in 1899, featuring Sir Frank Benson as Hamlet, Matheson Lang as Osric Frances, Dillon as Gertrude
On an afternoon in July 1899, Frank Benson took the radical step of introducing a complete First Folio text of Hamlet for Stratford audiences.




The following is one of a number of cards with an actor or actress photographed against the ivy-covered wall outside the Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford. Sir Frank played Hamlet at Stratford seventeen times between 1886 and 1916.
